MOMBASA MINISTRY
Why Ministry in Mombasa?
Mombasa is a gateway city in East Africa. This coastal city is the second largest city in Kenya (2011 population: 923,334). Over half of the population is Muslim and the town center is possibly 80% Muslim. There is a Christian presence in Mombasa; however, there is little intra-religious engagement.
The Paradise Hotel bombing in 2002 and Somali piracy has lead to an increasing fears amongst religious groups in Mombasa. Besides mutual fear, most Christians are biblically illiterate and are somewhat confused about their own beliefs; therefore, most religious groups in Mombasa and along the coast have remained unengaged with the gospel.
The Mombasa Ministry has 3 active programs:
- School of Apologetics/Ministry (SoM) for Christians in Mombasa. The SoM enables Christian practitioners to plant churches through having attained the ability to effectively communicate the gospel contextually (2 Timothy 2:15; 1 Peter 3:15).
- The production of training and evangelistic materials so that pastors and church leaders are trained and better equipped to train others in how they can reach their communities with the gospel (2Timothy 2:2).
- Training Christian leaders on how to nurture converts and equip local churches to better help persecuted converts by providing legal protection, economic empowerment and education.
