FIRST VISIT TO ZAMBIA

Well, I am back from my first trip to Zambia and what an amazing trip it was! First of all, Zambia is such a beautiful country and everyone I met was so warm and welcoming. I cannot wait to return!
The goal of this first trip was to establish relationships with some local church and community leaders and to assess the need. I spent most of my time visiting orphanages, schools, local pastors and ministry leaders. I was encouraged by the fact that there are so many native Christians with such a great desire to serve the Lord and build up their communities. Despite their efforts, there are still over one million orphans in Zambia. Despite the fact that many Zambians are educated, there few job opportunities and so many are dying of HIV/AIDS, Malaria, Cholera, etc. There just aren't enough resources to handle the overwhelming need.
One of the things I did while in Lusaka was to visit the headquarters for Empowerment Ministries International (EMI), one of the organizations that we are partnering with. EMI is a community service organization that focuses on Leadership Development and Education. FACE OF HARVEST, along with EMI, have started a Children’s Program called Kings Kids, through which we will provide biblical training and counseling, as well as help meet the needs of orphans and vulnerable children throughout the remote villages of Zambia and Malawi.
Our first Kings Kids project will be in Mukalaikwa, a village about 45 minutes outside of Lusaka. We will be able to provide a place where orphans and vulnerable children can come for regular classes, counseling, food, clothing and supplies. We plan to return in a couple of months to start this project. We will also visit the orphanage in Malawi to assess the needs there.
